Study in Suzhou, China

Suzhou, an historic city...

With more than 2,500 years of history, Suzhou is one of the most ancient city in China. Its long and rich history is due to its location on one of the most fertile lands in the world, the Yangze river delta. An ancient proverb quoted  that rice and fish production of Suzhou could feed the entire country. The Grand Canal linking Beijing to Hangzhou crosses Suzhou allowing the city to be an important point of commercial exchanges. Today, we can still witness this wealth when visiting the old city of Suzhou, its wonderful gardens listed on the Unesco List of World Heritage and its rich mansions.

Suzhou, has embraced the 21st century with lots of potential

In the last twenty years Suzhou has developed its economy at a tremendous rapid pace, allowing this quiet and touristic place to become one of the most vibrant, industrious city in China. Less than half an hour from Shanghai, one hour from Hangzhou and Nanjing by high speed train, Suzhou is located in the heart of this Yangze river delta economic zone, the richest in China in terms of economic wealth, R&D and innovation facilities, universities and talents. With a total GDP of 1,550 billion of CNY in 2016 (230 billion of USD, equivalent to the GDP of Finland), Suzhou ranks 7th in China after Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Tianjin and Chongqing. Suzhou GDP per capita exceeded 20,000 USD for the first time in 2015.

Suzhou remains a nice, green and family-friendly city

Even though its quick economic development, Suzhou remains a nice place to live. With a rather low density of people, a rather better air quality and a very nice environment (green spaces, gardens - the famous ancient gardens, lakes - lake Tai is the third biggest lake in China) living in Suzhou is by far much more enjoyable than living in big cities like Shanghai, Beijing or Shenzhen.
